Hot coffee, cold gelato, ninety seconds. Coffee that doubles as dessert.
Горячий кофе, холодное джелато, 90 секунд. Кофе, который заменяет десерт.
Affogato - Italian for "drowned" - is less a recipe than an idea: hot coffee poured directly over cold vanilla gelato or ice cream, so the two collide right at the table. The heat starts melting the ice cream instantly, creating a texture somewhere between a drink and a dessert. It takes ninety seconds and reliably impresses.
Suggested coffee: Harmonia - 50/50 Arabica-Robusta or Lunaria - 30/70 Arabica-Robusta.
You'll need: 1 scoop vanilla gelato or ice cream, 1 shot (or small moka cup, ~ 30–40 ml) of freshly brewed coffee.
- Place the scoop of ice cream in a small glass or bowl.
- Brew the coffee hot, right before serving.
- Pour the hot coffee directly over the ice cream at the table.
- Eat immediately, while the two are still fighting each other for temperature.
Next time you can't decide between coffee and dessert, let them fight it out in the same glass!
